Distance range estimation for uniform DEER sampling grids, assuming free electron magnetogyric ratios. The minimum distance is estimated from the Nyquist-Shannon condition on the largest frequency the grid can sample. The maximum distance is obtained from the smallest frequency for which the half-period condition is used.

Syntax

    [rmin,rmax]=dist_range(np,tmax,mode)

Arguments

     np - number of points in the time grid

   tmax - the time (seconds) of the last point in the
            grid if the first point is zero

   mode - 'unsafe' returns distance ranges correspon-
            ding to the Nyquist-Shannon sampling of the
            DEER signal. This is exact but problematic:
            for edge frequencies, both background esti-
            mation and distance extraction is not reli-
            able; 'safe' (default) gives distance rang-
            es corresponding to twice the Nyquist-Shan-
            non sampling, a safe practical choice

Outputs

   rmin - minimum distance supported by the
            grid, Angstrom

   rmax - maximum distance supported by the
            grid, Angstrom

Examples

Strict Nyquist estimate for a 2 microsecond DEER trace containing 512 points:

 >> [rmin,rmax]=dist_range(512,2e-6,'unsafe')

 rmin = 7.4082

 rmax = 59.2655
